Advisory panel submits report to AASU, AJYCP

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Sept 2 - The Asom Paramarshadata Committee formed by the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) today submitted its report to the leaders of both the organisations, suggesting steps to secure social, educational, economic and political future of the State.

The 45-page document will soon be made public and the two organisations will plan their next course of action on the basis of the suggestions, leaders of both the organisations said after receiving the report.

Even as both the organisations remained tight-lipped about the contents of the report, sources privy to the developments said that the political recommendations of the committee include the need of a new and strong regional political force in Assam.

Amid speculations about AASUs entry into politics from the State Assembly elections next year, the committees political recommendations have generated a lot of interest among the people, even as the student body has reiterated its stand to remain an apolitical entity.

The 16-member Assam Paramarshadata Committee was formed on August 19 with writer and former Asam Sahitya Sabha president Dr Nagen Saikia and Padma Shri award winning author Arup Kumar Dutta as advisors.

On behalf of the committee, educationists Basanta Deka and Dr KG Bhattacharya handed over the report to AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath, general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi and AJYCP general secretary Palash Changmai.

We will discuss the report thoroughly and would announce our next move very soon. A time-bound execution of the committees recommendations would also be ensured, Nath said.
