Admission process in city colleges begins

GUWAHATI, June 5 - The process of admission into the Higher Secondary courses has begun in the city colleges. In many institutions, including the Cotton University, the process will be online.

The High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination results this year saw a significant dip in the success rate of students, with 47.94 per cent of those appearing in the exam clearing it as against 62.79 per cent last year.

The pass percentage is the lowest after 2003 when it was 44.11 per cent. A total of 3,72,640 students had appeared in the exam, of which 1,78,656 cleared it. The number of first-division holders are 54,955, while those getting second and third divisions are 80,179 and 43,522 respectively. Though the pass percentage dipped significantly, the number of first-division holders saw a jump from 54,197 last year to 54,955.

Submission of forms online began at the Cotton University today and it will close on June 8 for the Science stream and on June 14 for the Arts stream.

Registrar Shikhar Kumar Sarma said the cut-off marks will be declared a day before the admission dates.

The admission for the Science stream will be held at Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha auditorium on June 11 (day shift) and June 12 (evening shift) and on June 17 for the Arts stream. There are 350 seats in the HS Science (day), 150 in HS Science (evening) and 160 in the Arts stream.

Guwahati Commerce College (GCC) is offering 456 seats HS seats this year. The last date of submission of forms is June 10 and admissions will be held on June 17. Classes will be held from June 23. Admission forms have been made available both at the college and online.

GCC Principal Dr H Kalita said there have no changes made in the fee structure but a uniform fee structure is likely to be in place from the next academic year. He also informed that study centres of KKHSO and IDOL(GU) have been opened in the college this year and students can take admission in distance education commerce courses.

KC Das Commerce College will accept online application forms till June 10. The process started yesterday. The admissions will be held on June 15, while the classes will commence from June 22. There will be 300 seats in the Higher Secondary section.

For B Borooah College, the last date for submission for forms is June 12 for Science, June 16 for Arts and June 17 for Commerce. The dates of admission are June 13 (Science), June 19 (Arts) and June 20 (Commerce). Authorities of Handique Girls' College will accept admission forms for both HS and degree courses up to June 15.
