Administration calls for safe, peaceful Holi

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 10 - With a view to ensuring a peaceful Holi, the Kamrup Metro district administration has urged citizens of the city to come forward and lodge complaints with the police against rowdy elements who misbehave with or harass anybody.

In an advisory issued to the residents of the city, Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner Dr M Angamuthu has also stated that use of any kind of alcohol, narcotics and psychotropic substances during Holi is strictly prohibited.

Play safe Holi. Do not get boisterous and do not let others be rude to you. If any untoward revellers misbehave, complain to the police. People should mark out the locality, building and, if possible, the person or persons who misbehave. One has to recognise the difference between playfulness and harassment, he said.

As per the advisory issued by the DC, throwing or smearing of paints and paint-like materials, mud, powder, coloured water and other objectionable materials on persons at public places, including roads and thoroughfares, is strictly prohibited.

Do not throw any liquid or materials on running vehicles as that may cause accidents leading to possible loss of life and property. Play with natural homemade colours. If natural colours are not possible, then ensure a better quality of colours. Buy colours from a reputed shop or vendor, said the advisory.

The administration has urged parents and guardians to discourage children from playing Holi with eggs, mud or water from the gutters.

Do not use metallic harmful colours or lob balloons at unsuspecting commoners. Do not apply colours forcibly on anybody, the advisory said.
