By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 5 - The Kamrup Metro district administration has formed three teams, led by executive magistrates, to check wholesale and retail markets and shops to monitor the prices of onions and potatoes.

The teams, comprising officials of the district administration, GMC and Food and Civil Supplies Department, have been formed in the wake of the recent hikes in the prices of the two kitchen staples, said an official statement.

They have started inspecting various markets in the city. Among other things, the teams are checking the purchase vouchers by wholesalers for the two commodities, transportation costs, labour charges and profit margins.

The district administration has also made it compulsory for the retailers to hand over purchase receipts to consumers who buy onions and potatoes.

Retailers have been directed not to keep a profit margin of more than Rs 4 for one kg of potatoes and Rs 6 for one kg of onions.
