GUWAHATI, Sept 25 - The Kamrup (Metro) district administration today said that steps have been taken to ensure that the forthcoming Durga Puja passes off peacefully and free of any hassle in the city.

A total of three task forces have been constituted with officials from the police, APDCL, PWD, Fire and Emergency Services, health department, Pollution Control Board and DTO to supervise and monitor smooth conduct of the Durga Puja. Each task force is headed by an additional district magistrate or executive magistrate, said Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (M).

He said a standing order has been issued to all Durga Puja committees to construct temporary structures considering all safety norms and to acquire safety certificates from competent authorities.

Advisory on dos and donts during Puja has been prepared and circulated through leaflets to all the Durga Puja committees, said the DC.

The district administration has opened a control room for convenience of the public during the Durga Puja days. The control room number is 0361-2733052 and the toll-free number is 1077.

Panjabari: The Brihattar Kalakshetra Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee (BKSDPC) is all set to organise the second edition of the Durga Puja with a five-day programme at Jilika Path near the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Panjabari.

Besides the daily puja rituals, Thiyo Naam and Nagara Naam will also be held on the occasion, along with other cultural programmes. Bhog will be served to all the devotees on Saptami, Asthami and Navami.

Like last year, the inmates of old-age homes have also been invited. They will be brought by the committee members to the puja venue for paying obeisance to the deity.

The Kharghuli Sanatan Dharma Mandir Committee will also be celebrating Durga Puja for the 41st time with traditional rituals.

The five-day event will be marked by various competitions like Gosani Naam, Uruli, Arati, besides Ojapali and jatra presentations. The organising committee has made arrangements to make the festival a success, stated a press release.

Sunsali: Like in previous years, Durga Puja will be celebrated this time at the Sunsali Sashan Kali Temple from September 26 with traditional fervour. During the Puja, Pani Tola, Kumari Puja, Arati, Naam Prasanga and other rituals will be held, stated a press release.
