GUWAHATI, Oct 7 - The Kamrup Metro district administration has fixed certain dos and donts for the committees organizing Durga Puja across the city.

Senior district administration officials told The Assam Tribune that the guidelines have been framed with a view to ensure that no untoward incidents take place during the festivities.

The organizers have a major role in ensuring peaceful celebration of Durga Puja. Over 600 committees are organizing Durga Puja across the city and the guidelines have been issued with the intention of holding the festivities without any bad or untoward incident. We have asked all Puja organizing committees to cooperate with the administrative machinery in implementation of all guidelines regarding safety and security, said an official.

All the committees have been asked to strictly follow the rules regarding use of loud speakers and keep the general area of Durga Puja festival clear of all dangerous articles.

The organizers will have to ensure safety of all visitors from temporary structures, electrical fittings and fire and keep a designated area clear to cater to emergency situations and for evacuation.

They have also been told to appoint sufficient volunteers and brief them well in advance of their responsibilities, provide easily distinguishable identity cards to all volunteers, submit detailed list of all office bearers and volunteers to the nearest police station and to ensure that the pandal area is kept under guard even when it is empty, like during the early morning hours, to maintain security of the venue.

The Durga Puja organizers have been directed to keep a medical team, including doctors, ready to handle any emergency and to inform the local police station about all programmes as well about invitations extended to any VIP or High Risk dignitary to the venue.

They have been directed to ensure that nobody consumes alcohol and psychotropic drugs at or near the Puja venue.

After the festivities are over, the organizers will have to clean their respective venues.

The office bearers of the Puja committees have also been asked to pass on all the provisions of the guidelines to the workers and other members of the local groups organizing the festivities and warned against violation of the guidelines.
