By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 13 The Kamrup Metro district administration has started issuing daily weather bulletin with a view to better disseminate the weather conditions in the city and also provide timely warnings to the general public in case of any serious forecast.

Speaking to The Assam Tribune Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner (in-charge) of Kamrup Metro district, said that the daily bulletin is based on primary data collected from a number of sources.

We collect all the primary data and then issue the daily bulletin. The data is very comprehensive and our aim is to ensure that the local people in the city are able to get reliable weather details, he said.

The primary data is collected from India Meteorological Department (IMD), the North East Space Application Centre, the Assam Remote Sensing Application Centre and the Water Resources Department.

The administration started issuing the daily bulletin from last week. Along with daily temperature and rainfall figures, it also contains forecast and also water-level in water-bodies.

The latest initiative comes after the district administration decided to install sirens in low-lying and flood-prone areas of the city to warn the public in case of rise in water levels.

We already have the data regarding the weather. What was needed was to collate the data and provide details to the public. We want to ensure that the kind of incident witnessed during last months deluge in the city is not repeated in future, Angamuthu said.
