By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 7 The All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) today said that the wage agreement of tea workers made after every three years between the Consultative Committee for Planters Association (CCPA) and the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) is illegal as it is below the State minimum wage of Rs 169.

AASAA has been demanding the increase of the daily wage of tea workers from Rs 94 to Rs 330 as far as the profit of tea company is concerned and the price rise of essential commodities is growing at an alarming rate, it said in a statement.

It added, The present daily wage of tea workers which is Rs 94 is the lowest wage given to tea workers of Assam, though in Kerala the tea worker gets Rs 254 which is higher than the state minimum wage of Rs 224.

The outfit said it will continue to hold mass agitational programmes till the just demands of workers are fulfilled and it is preparing to approach the Supreme Court and international human rights and labour bodies in this regard.
