Adivasi body warns of indefinite stir

By STAFF Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, June 9 The All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) has warned the State Government that it would resort to an indefinite blockade of all finished tea products in the State in the event of the failure on the part of the State Government to issue a notification for revised daily wages of tea garden workers.

AASAA president Raphael Kujur said that the transportation of finished tea products would be stopped across the State if the Government fails to come up with the notification of wages for various categories of workers in the tea plantations of the State. We will prevent the movement of all carriers transporting finished tea products from the State in support of our demand for the wage notification for tea garden workers, he said.

It may be mentioned here that the wage advisory board comprising representatives of the Government, planters bodies and trade unions held a meeting on May 15 and 16 for fixing the revised wages for the workers, but the outcome of the meeting has not been revealed as yet.

The AASAA has demanded that the Tarun Gogoi-led State Government should issue the notification for fixing proper wages for the workers at the earliest, failing which they would be compelled to resort to a democratic agitation.
