Adivasi body to oppose BPF, Cong

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, March 22 The Adivasis would not support the Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) and the Congress party in the ensuing BTAD elections, as the former has broken the promises given in political talks with Adivasi leaders following the recent carnage by the NDFB (S) and the latter has failed to safeguard the constitutional rights of the community. This decision was taken at a meeting of the Adivasi National Conventions BTAD regional committee, held at Titaguri in Kokrajhar district on Saturday, its president Boyal Hembrom said.

The BPF party leaders did not even field Adivasi candidates in unreserved seats dominated by the community despite repeated requests made by the Adivasi leaders in poll-related talks, Hembrom alleged.

Therefore, the convention has already projected its own candidates in Pachnoi Serfang, Nonoi Serfang, Dihira and Nagrijuli seats in the election against BPF and Congress candidates, Hembrom added.
