�Addressing people�s problems is journalism�

DIBRUGARH, Nov 5 - Eminent journalist Chinmoy Thakurta during his visit to Dibrugarh University recently said that the mass media was a tool for saving present history.

Thakurta visited the Centre for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication and had an interactive session with faculty and students of the university.

In his address, he also shared his experience as a journalist during the Indo-China war in 1962. He was the correspondent from Bomdila at the time of the war. According to him, that period was one of the worst periods in Indian history.

In his interaction with the students, he expressed that in his over 30 years of working as a journalist; he always tried to represent the common people and their problems. He said, �Serving and addressing people�s problems is the basic purpose of journalism. It should work for the basic necessities and problems of the people.�

Thakurta also expressed his deep concern about the present fragile political scenario of the nation, and according to him the leader�s role as a people�s representative is not significant. It is the young generation who should play a crucial role in shaping the direction of the nation.
