Addl DGP Tripura removed

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, April 17 - Addl DGP (Law and Order) Rajiv Singh, who was assigned to look after security arrangement for Lok Sabha election in Tripura, has been shunted out by the Election Commission (EC) for failing to maintain law and order on the polling day of West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency on April 11.

Following instruction from the EC, CEO Sriram Tarinikanta had suggested to the State Government to remove Rajiv Singh from the key post and hand over the responsibility to another IPS officer VS Yadav.

As per the instruction, Rajiv Singh was removed and VS Yadav has already taken the responsibility to conduct the election in East Tripura Lok Sabha seat in a peaceful way, said a senior poll official here on Wednesday.

Before joining the State police, Singh had served CBI as Joint Director, Eastern Region. There are allegations that it was Rajiv Singh, who kept Central forces inactive during the voting for West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency on April 11 leading to large scale rigging, booth capturing, threats and intimidation by the ruling party cadres.

An average 83 per cent polling was recorded in the Parliamentary constituency but opposition parties were up in arms over the neutrality of the voting despite availability of Central forces.
