Additional charge for Acharya as Manipur Guv

IMPHAL, June 27 - Nagaland Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya was sworn in as the Governor of Manipur at the Raj Bhavan here today.

Governor Acharya gets the additional charge of Manipur in the absence of incumbent Manipur Governor Dr Najma Heptulla who will be on leave for a month.

Justice Lanusungkum Jamir of the High Court of Manipur administered the oath of office and secrecy to Acharya at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan soon after the Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu read out the President of India�s appointment of Acharya as Governor of Manipur, in addition to his own duties, during the absence of Dr Heptulla.

Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh, ministers, MLAs, family members of the Governor, the Chief Secretary, the DGP and several other dignitaries attended the swearing-in function.

Former Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam and Congress MLA AK Mirabai were also present on the occasion.

Acharya has been the Governor of Nagaland since July 2014, while Heptulla was appointed as the Governor of Manipur in August, 2016.
