GUWAHATI, Sept 18 An added time goal by substitute Kapil Daimary saw the day through for the NF Railway Sports Club.

In a prequarterfinal match of the 63rd Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament at the Nehru Stadium here today, NF Railway edged past Ganga Sports Club by a margin of 2-1 goal.

The ace striker of the NF Railwat team Jeelendra Brahma drew the first blood for his team with a close-range volley in the ninth minute. Sasanka Chanda set the ball for Jeelendra after getting it from a flag kick. Ganga substitute John Tl Jamang scored the equaliser with a solo effort. Getting the ball inside the box, the nimble footed striker dodged a couple of NFR defenders showing his control over the ball and fired home from inside the box. The match was about to finish when Kapil beat the Ganga custodian Munshi Saifuddin with a beautifully placed left footer from the left flank.

It was, however, Ganga SC which created more openings. But their Nigerian striker John Ozoemene Nwoke who squandered few scoring opportunities from inside the box. Bikash Thapa and Thanil Singh also failed to hit the NFR net despite toiling hard in the later part of the match.

For the winning team, Sibra Narzary and Jeelendra were always on their toes.

Todays match: Green Valley vs Nagaland Police.
