AGARTALA, June 16 - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a project submitted by Tripura Urban Development department (UDD) amounting to Rs 1,650 crore for overall infrastructure development of seven district headquarter towns of the State, according to official sources.
The outlay is meant for development of piped water supply, underground drainage, underground sewage or scientific sewerage management and roads with pavement.
The seven district headquarters where the ambitious plan will be implemented include � Khowai, Ambassa, Dharmnagar, Kailashahar, Udaipur, Bishramganj and Belonia.
The ADB will provide Rs 1,650 crore, out of which 80 per cent is grant in aid and the State will have to repay back only the 20 per cent loan component in due course of time.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) have also approved the project.
The ADB had sent Consultation Mission to Agartala to seek the feasibility of Project Readiness Financing (PFR) & Technical Assistance (TA) for preparation of DPR of this project in December 2018. After the visit, the ADB has recommended for PFR & TA of Rs 21 crore for the project.
Accordingly, the proposal of PFR for Rs 21 crore has been approved by the Screening Committee of DEA, Ministry of Finance.
Now, the Urban Development Department would start preparing DPRs with the assistance of ADB for speedy execution of the project.
The State Government for the first time has taken a concrete decision for comprehensive development of infrastructures in seven district HQ towns for which there has been continuous demand of public from these headquarter towns.
