Action sought against teacher for harassing girl student

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 12 - Parents of some students today met the principal of Shrimanta Shankar Academy, Dispur, seeking action against a teacher of the school who had allegedly abused physically and mentally a girl student.

In a written letter, the parents demanded an enquiry into the incident.

The incident reportedly took place recently on the last day of the annual examination and the accused teacher even went on to threaten the minor of dire consequence if she reported the matter to anybody.

Considering the gravity of the crime and going by the reputation of the school and the very position you are in, we expect you to be impartial said the letter addressed to the principal.

Shielding the culprit may not serve the purpose and in future, such incidents may recur. Since the school is nobodys fiefdom, we demand an impartial enquiry so that the truth comes out and justice is done, the statement signed by over 70 parents said.

Meanwhile, the school authorities have denied the allegation in an FIR lodged with the Dispur Police Station and termed it an attempt to bring disrepute to the school.

We have not received any formal complaint from the parents. However, the school authorities have filed a complaint. We are yet to register a case in this regard, Ramandeep Kaur (DCP) said.
