BONGAIGAON, Oct 20 - Seven student groups in Chirang district have demanded the civil and police administration to put some strict regulation in force against some evil and anti-social practices performed in the name of festival celebration in the district.

Such festivals or mela for prolonged periods not only disturbs the educational atmosphere, but also casts a negative impact on the frugal economy of the rural people, the student leaders opined.

Different forms of gambling and lotteries as well as open selling of liquor and hooch during such festive occasions and melas often cause irreparable damage to the society as a whole, the student leaders added.
