Action against Morigaon DC demanded

By CORRESPONDENT

MORIGAON, Aug 17 - The members of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Tiwa Yuba Chatra Parishad and the All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union on Thursday took out a protest march near Morigaon Kali Mandir and blocked the Nagaon-Morigaon PWD road shouting slogans against Deputy Commissioner, Morigaon Hemen Das saying that the DC Morigaon was safeguarding the illegal Bangladeshis interest in the NRC update process in Morigaon district. They demanded action against the DC and a probe into the whole affair

The sudden protest of the three organisations on the road confused the police and security personnel as the agitators blocked the road, burnt the effigy of DC, Morigaon and demanded the government to book him. Lalit Pachani, president of the Morigaon district unit of the AJYCP talking to newsmen said that in the NRC update process as many as 39 Bangladeshi families were included, as disclosed by the DC, Morigaon himself.

Moreover, a declared Bangladeshi Khairul Islam who was declared a foreigner by the foreigner tribunal and Gauhati High Court was entrusted in the NRC updation works in Kolmoubari NSK. The AJYCP leader questionned as to how a good number of Bangladesshis names were included in the NRC final draft in Morigaon district. The DC, Morigaon Hemen Dass apathetic attitude in the whole NRC update process turned this vital issue of Assamese people into a mockery. The agitators demanded immediate punitive action against the DC, Morigaon and a thorough probe into the gross anomalies in NRC update process in Morigaon district.
