Acid attack victim battling for life

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 24 - At a time when accredited social health activists (ASHA) are playing a vital role in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, a city-based ASHA worker, who recently received serious injuries in an incident of acid attack, is now battling for her life at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The acid attack took place on September 21 in Fatasil Ambari area. According to police, one Kartik Biswas threw acid on her during the evening hours of the day. She received multiple injuries.

Meanwhile, a source stated that the staff of the hospital where she had been taken immediately after the incident, denied her admission in the hospital citing the pandemic and discharged her after preliminary treatment.

As a result, her condition deteriorated and she started vomiting blood.

Yesterday, one of her neighbours informed a city-based NGO about her condition. The NGO brought the incident to the notice of the district social welfare department, and today she was admitted in the GMCH. Meanwhile, the arrested accused has been sent to judicial custody.
