Achyut Lakhar gets Bhaben Barua Award

PATACHARKUCHI, Sept 12 - Achyut Lahkar, producer of Nataraj Theatre and popularly known as the inventor of present mobile theatre concept was awarded the prestigious Bhaben Barua Award at a private nursing home in Pathsala.

The Nalbari Zila Samiti of the AJYCP members on Friday conferred the award to him which constitutes Rs 10,000 in cash, a sarai and gamosa. The chief advisor of the central committee, Dilip Patgiri, the central committee president, Biraj Talukdar, Nalbari district president, Brajen Choudhury, its secretary Gautam Sarma, president of Bajali Zila Samiti, Mridul Talukdar, joint secretary of central committee, Bijon Bayan, and several members were present in the programme.

Talking to this correspondent, Biraj Talukdar demanded to provide pensions to the mobile theatre artist and assured to place the demand from the organisation for giving proper recognition to Lahkar for his lifelong work by providing Sangeet Natak Akademi Award from the Government.

Earlier, the AJYCP members took out a procession before the programme.
