Acharya urges MLAs to adopt villages

DIMAPUR, Aug 22 - Nagaland Governor PB Acharya has appealed to all the legislators of the State to adopt a village or two in their own constituency.

The Governor made the appeal when Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland Neiphiu Rio called on him at Raj Bhavan in Kohima recently.

The MP apprised the Governor of the developmental projects taken up in Selouphe village in Dimapur which he adopted under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) in November 2014.

Quoting the President that �India is a country of villages,� Acharya stated that village development is the development of the whole country. To achieve this, he urged all the MLAs to develop the villages and empower the villagers.

Rio had also adopted Longwa village in Mon district as his second village under SAJY as suggested by the Governor. Accordingly, the traditional Angh�s house had been renovated under SAJY and Rio invited the Governor to inaugurate it in October, a press release from PRO to the Governor informed.

SAGY was initiated to bring the MPs of all political parties under the same umbrella while taking the responsibility of developing physical and institutional infrastructure in villages and turn them into model villages under this scheme. Each MP has to choose one village each from the constituency that they represent, except their own village or their in-laws village and fix parameters and make it a model village.
