Acharya hails Delhi Govt move to set up NE cell

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 3 - Governor PB Acharya, while welcoming the move of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to establish the Northeast cell in the national capital, said that there had been a trust deficit between the people of the Northeast and the people of mainland India, including the people of Delhi, which alienated the former from the latter, resulting in many unwarranted incidents.

The people of the Northeast face numerous problems when they go outside. They face difficulties in adjustment, in their needs for accommodation, in food habits, in health and education, etc. These issues must be tackled and solved through understanding, patience and tolerance. The opening of a special cell for the region empowered by people with knowledge, understanding and experience of the region would go a long way in resolving the issues, Acharya said in a statement.

The Governor suggested that the local families of Delhi, who can be the guardians for the people of the Northeast, should be identified. This would give them the required security as well as respect.

The Governor stressed that the people of other regions must be enlightened about the Northeast, about its people, their way of life, their rich, diverse and colourful cultures and traditions, so that mutual respect and understanding could grow.

The magnificent natural beauty of the Northeast and her rich and varied flora and fauna are other essential aspects which should find their rightful place in the national perspective, so that the people of other regions become familiar with them and form a positive idea about the region, he observed.
