GUWAHATI, July 17 � Reacting to the State government�s allegation against Assam Chamber of Commerce (ACC) advisor Vijay Kr Gupta on �misleading the consumers regarding artificial crisis of potatoes in the market,� the ACC today said that no member of the organization is associated with the onion-potato trade in the State and the organization strongly opposes any kind of syndicate system in the State.
�Food and Civil Supply Minister Nazrul Islam�s statement against Gupta is baseless. The potato and onion trade in Assam is currently being controlled by 19 big traders. But instead of questioning them, the government is pointing a finger towards a member of ACC,� said a statement from the he ACC.
Alleging that the minister concerned was covering up his failure to control the market situation, the trade body demanded public distribution system to control the rates of onion and potatoes in the State.
