BARPETA, Sept 12 - Veteran academician, social worker, ex-Principal of Madhab Choudhury College and recipient of Barpeta Shiromani Award, Arjun Chandra Das is no more. He succumbed to COVID-19 infection this afternoon at the age of 87 in GMCH.
As the news of his demise reached Barpeta, the entire town was grief-stricken as the people lost one of their guardians and well-wishers. Das was associated with almost all the social, cultural and literary organisations in Barpeta and his death will create a void in the social life of Barpeta.
He was a person who dreamt of a developed Barpeta in all aspects and dedicated his life towards intellectual, literary and cultural development of Barpeta.
Several persons including president of the State unit of BJP Ranjit Kumar Das, Burha Satriya of Barpeta Satra Bashishtha Dev Sarma, writer and ex- Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta Thaneswar Malakar, writer and ex-president of Barpeta District Sahitya Sabha Akshay Kumar Mishra and Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta have condoled the death of Das.
Barpeta district committee of AASU, Brihattar Barpeta Rongali Bihu celebration committee, Barpeta Press Club, Barpeta Sahitya Sabha, Brihattar Batpeta Press Guild, Khilanjia Suraksha Bahini Asom, Sadou Asom Garia Maria Deshi Parishad and several other organisations and institutions have also condoled the death of their pathfinder Das.
