Academic laurels for poor shopkeeper�s daughter!

DERGAON, May 27 - Economic constraints could not deter Porismita Borah, a poor shopkeeper�s daughter at Fetagaon in Upper Assam�s Golaghat district, from securing 83.33 per cent marks in the High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLC), 2019, conducted by the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA).

Appearing in the exam from Dergaon Girls� Higher Secondary School, Porismita secured 80 in General Mathematics, 80 in Assamese, 83 in English, 80 in General Science, 80 in Social Science and 97 in Information Technology,

Daughter of Dipa and Nripen Borah of Fetagaon, a remote area which is 3 kms away to the south of National Highway-37 at Negheriting here.

Porismita not only keeps busy with her books, but also has good skill in extra-curricular activities like drama, dance, music etc.

She participated in the national science drama festival on behalf of the school where she acted in the drama titled Pakhir kakalit sushuvita dharani in New Delhi, just before a month prior to the examination.

The said the drama was adjudged as the best drama in the district, State and North East-level and finally the play represented North East at the national level.

She now aspires to study Science in a reputed institute and aims to be a socially responsible citizen.

Her father Nripen manages his family with the meagre income trickling down from sales in his shop.

Porismita told this Correspondent that she always considered extra-curricular activities as necessary in order to become a skilled person in life.

�Only academic course material can never make a man fit for livelihood,� she added.

She expressed her gratitude to her teachers, who went the extra mile to make her achieve this result.

�Though I want to study in a reputed institute, my dream might not materialise,� she said.

Her father, however, was hopeful of nurturing her daughter into a good citizen with the help of all the well-wishers.
