GUWAHATI, June 1 � Assam Cricket Association (ACA) president Gautom Roy has constituted a committee to look after the affairs of the State Ranji team which will participate in the Elite Group of the tournament. In exercise of the power under clause 21 (D) of the ACA constitution, the committee has been formed to see to it that the State Ranji team performs to its potential in the Elite Group.
The committee has been vested with powers to recruit outstation players in consultation with the selection committee and the finance committee.
The committee will also be responsible for the coaching schedule and making exposure tours of the team. Joint secretary of ACA Ummananda Bora has been named convenor of the committee. The other members of the committee are Dipak Das, Manoj Bhagawati, Subhrajit Saikia, Devojit Saikia (all ex-Ranji players) and Sushanta Biswa Sarma, assistant secretary of the ACA.
Although the committee has no selection making powers, it will have a say in the day-to-day affairs of the team.
The convenor of the committe will maintain all the records and all correspondence will be through the office of the honourary secretary of the ACA.
ACA secretary Bikash Barua thanked Roy for forming such a committe and said, �Since all the members of the committee are ex-Ranji players, the team will get some good guidance to improve their overall performance. This time, Assam can expect a strong Ranji team.� Meanwhile, Dipak Das has accepted the offer to serve in the committee, informs Barua.
