ACA felicitate Riyan Parag

GUWAHATI, June 21 - Young Riyan Parag, who has been selected for the India U-19 team for the England tour, was accorded a warm felicitation by the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) at its Barsapara stadium here today.

ACA vice president Debajit Saikia and secretary Pradip Buragohain congratulated Riyan for being selected in the India U-19 team. Saikia said, it is not so easy to get selection in any Indian team and it was Riyan who made a cut due to his stupendous performance in the last season�s Cooch Behar Trophy.

The ACA officials hoped the young talent will carry his bat successfully in the years to come. Riyan�s parents � former Ranji cricketer Parag Das and ex-international swimmer Mithu Baruah were also honoured by the State cricket body.

Parag Das said on the occasion that Assam cricketers have to be committed for selection in Indian squad. �My suggestion for the State cricketers would be to aim for the Indian senior team. Our players need to perform consistently if they need to come into reckoning,� he said.

Riyan�s mother Mithu also spoke on the occasion and hoped Assam will be able to produce more players for various Indian teams. South Point School principal Krishnajan Chanda and journalist Subodh Malla Baruah were also feted in the function. Riyan is a student of the South Point School. ACA also distributed cheques to the players in the same function.
