GUWAHATI, Sept 23 � The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has set up new selection committees for the next tenure. In a crucial meeting among the secretaries of ACA affiliated district units held here yesterday, the State cricket body has handed over the responsibility of senior selection committee chairmanship to former East Zone and noted batsman of Assam Bimal Bharali. Former leading players Gautam Dutta, Zaved Zaman and Paramesh Bora have been named as members of the senior selection panel.
In the junior category, Ratul Das was named chairman of the selection committee while Nishanta Bordoloi, Mukut Das and Dhruba Sabhapandit are the members of the committee.
Manoj Bhagawati became the chairman of the women selection committee with Utpal Das, Manju Chetia and Rita Vaidya as members.
Bhakti Medhi was named as manager of the State Ranji team while Md Khalique will manage the senior team in One-dayers and T20 matches.
Informing this, ACA secretary Bikash Baruah said the lists of selection panels will be placed before the governing body for final approval. Baruah further revealed that last year�s State Ranji captain Amol Mazumdar was summoned to appear before the ACA members yesterday to clarify on the causes for the Assam team�s failure in the Ranji Trophy. It is worth mentioning that Assam was relegated to Plate group from Elite.
Mazumdar admitted that he made some vital mistakes due to which Assam had to face defeat in a couple of matches, informed Baruah.
