ACA camp gets under way

GUWAHATI, May 11 � Former India player and coach of the T20 World Cup champion Indian team Lalchand Rajput today began the Assam Cricket Association organised 15-day batting camp at the Nehru Stadium here.

Rajput, batting coach of BCCI, has been appointed as chief coach of India A team which will tour West Indies from May 30. Assam�s Subhadeep Ghosh is the fielding coach of the team.

ACA has selected 23 batsmen from various junior inter-district tournaments for the camp. Accordingly 20 bowlers were also picked to bowl in the nets. Noted pace bowler of the State Zaved Zaman will train the bowlers in the camp while Subharajit Saikia and Subhadeep Ghosh will assist Rajput. Speaking in the inaugural ceremony of the camp, Rajput urged the youngsters to take up the game seriously. He said the Assam players have adequate talent but their application is not proper during games.

He promised to teach all the finer points of batting and it is up to the players how they adopt it.
