ABSU stages fast for creation of separate Bodoland

TEZPUR, Jan 27 � The All Bodo Students� Union (ABSU) activists of 18 Anchalic Committees of Sonitpur district gathered at Dhekiajuli to stage a hunger strike demanding creation of a separate Bodoland State.

ABSU volunteers from Gohpur, Biswanath Chariali, Sootea, Balipara, Thelamara, Dhekiajuli and Rangapara took part in the protest.

The president of Sonitpur district ABSU Tepu Ram Boro informed this correspondent that Bodoland is the constitutional right of the Bodos. It is legitimate to achieve the same by the Bodos.

�The Bodos have been struggling for the past 46 years for a separate State for the safety and security, socio-cultural and economic development which is constitutionally legal,�he added.

Our Barama Correspondent adds: The Barama anchalik unit of of ABSU observed a 12-hour hunger strike at Barama in support of creation of a separate Bodoland.

Similar hunger strikes were observed in different places like Mushalpur, Tamulpur, Goreswar, Salbari, Jalah, Baganpara in Baksa district by the conserned Anchalik ABSU units.

Our Udalguri Correspondent adds: Along with the rest of the state, the Udalguri district committee of All Bodo Students� Union (ABSU) staged a12-hour-long hunger strike in front of the Udalguri Durga Puja mandap in Udalguri town today demanding a separate State of Bodoland.

About 150 ABSU activists and other senior citizens, members from Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Bodo Women�s Justice Forum, etc., also joined the day-long hunger strike and raised slogans demanding a separate state under the constitutional provision. The students� union held that if Telengana was a possible picture for a separate State, the Bodoland for the sons of the soils must be in the list and the ABSU would not sit idle now onwards until the logical demand was fulfilled by the Union Government.

Along with Udalguri town, various anchalik committees of the students� organization staged similar hunger strikes today at Tangla Charali, Tangla, Inspection Bungalow at Kalaigaon, Lakhi Mandir, Orang and Bodoland Guest House, Bhergaon in the district.

Our Kokrajhar Correspondent adds: The All Bodo Students� Union (ABSU) today staged a 12-hour hunger strike from 6 am at Kokrajhar Rasmela field demanding immediate creation of a separate Bodoland state.

ABSU warned that it would revive the vigorous mass movement if the Government of India goes ahead with its isolated policy on the creation of separate State.
