ABSU observes Gandhi�s 151st birth anniversary

GUWAHATI, Oct 3 - The All Bodo Students� Union (ABSU) observed the 151st birth anniversary of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and International Day of Non-Violence at Lakhi Mandir playground in Jalah under Baksa district with a daylong colourful programme on October 2.

The day�s event started with morning prayers followed by hoisting of National Flag by Bhabesh Sarma, principal of Dr Ananta Academy.

ABSU flag was hoisted by Dipen Boro, president of ABSU. Floral tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi by Nripendra Nath Sarma, retired headmaster of Sri Sri Lakshmi HS Uzirbari.

White pigeons were released as a symbol of peace and non-violence by Dr. Keshab Basumatari, principal of BB Kishan College.

The open session, with the theme �Non-violence and peace is the master key in building a strong society, its relevancy after signing BTR Peace Accord�, was held at 11 am, which was presided over by Dipen Boro. The open session was attended by veteran journalist and State Information Commissioner Samudra Gupta Kashyap as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Kashyap requested all to start learning ethnic languages of other communities for better understanding among people. Jayanta Kumar Das, senior journalist and son of freedom fighter late Pani Ram Das, attended the celebration as the appointed speaker.
