ABSU golden jubilee�s closing ceremony begins today

BATASHIPUR (DHEKIAJULI), Jan 17: Batshipur area under Dhekiajuli PS in Sonitpur district is all set to celebrate the closing ceremony of the golden jubilee of the ABSU and its 50th annual conference from tomorrow with a four-day long programme.

The venue of the programme, christened �Banasur Fwthar� in memory of King Bana, in Batshipur is around 12 km from Dhekiajuli town.

ABSU vice-president Dipen Boro said that the programme will begin with the inauguration of the main gate by the local MLA Ashok Singhal tomorrow. It will be followed by the inauguration of freedom fighter Swahid Ratan Kochari Memorial Guest House by the Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur, Manoj Kumar Deka, Baneswar Basumatry memorial main pandal and stage by Tezpur MP, RP Sharma, Jwhwlaw Baliram Boro memorial delegates� camp by BTC, EM, Alindra Mochahary and the Twipurni Tandwi Prof Khudiram Kochari Memorial Delegate Hall by MLA, Barchala, Ganesh Kumar Limbu, freedom fighter Maniram Kochari Memorial exhibition-cum-book fair by Rihan Daimary, Minister for PHE and Food and Civil Supply, freedom fighter Lerela Kochari memorial volunteer camp and freedom fighter Habang Kochary memorial volunteer�s camp by the Sonitpur SP, PP Singh and Rajen Barthakur, former MLA, Tezpur, and the inauguration of Late Hari Basumatary memorial open market by the Chairman, Dhekiajuli Municipality Board, John Saikia.

Tributes to Bodofa UN Brahma will be formally started by ABSU adviser, Khwnkhra Swargiary, homage to the 1942 Quit India Movement martyrs will be paid by Jayanta Basumatary, �Speaker� ABSU and homage to the martyrs of 1989 Gohpur massacre during Bodoland movement will be paid by Dipen Boro, vice-president, ABSU. At 12.15 pm, the registration of delegates and observers and at 12.30 pm, the central working committee sitting will be held.

At 2 pm, the formal inauguration of golden jubilee closing celebration and felicitation to special achievers will be held. This session will be attended by Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, ABSU president Pramod Boro, AASU�s chief adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya, Dr GK Pillai, former Home Secretary, Government of India, Patricia Mukhim, Editor, The Shillong Times, Amitabh Beher, Executive Director, National Foundation for India, Prof Chandan Sharma, Dept of Sociology, Tezpur University and Rwn Gwra Narzary, MCLA, BTC. At 5 pm, illumination of candle light for peace, unity and fraternity will be done, which will be formally opened by Maneswar Daimary, Adviser, ABSU. At 6 pm, the first delegate session will be held. It will be inaugurated by Principal, Indira Higher Secondary School, Lakhipur, Goalpara. At 8 pm, a cultural competition will be inaugurated by an ex-cultural secretary of the ABSU, Hemraj Rabha.

On January 19, the major event of the day is a national conclave on �Tribal/Adivasi struggle in India, past, present and the future� in collaboration with the Tribal Intellectual Collectives of India (TICI). It will be chaired by Prof Verginius Xaxa, Tezpur University and a number of distinguished panelists like Aditya Khaklary, general secretary, Tribal Sangha, Surya Singh Besra, Ex-MLA, Jharkhand, Bhangya Bhukya, Associate Professor, Hyderabad Central University, Richard Kamei, Tribal Intellectual Collective India, Manipur among others. At 2 pm, a felicitation programme will be held to honour the families of the martyrs of the Bodoland movement. It will be followed by a special delegate meeting at 5 pm for women which will be inaugurated by Dr Monica Benarjee, Director, National Foundation for India, New Delhi.

The major programmes of January 20 and 21 are the second convention of the National Federation for New States (NFNS) chaired by former advocate general, Government of Maharashtra and president, NFNS Shrihari Aney and it will be graced by a number of distinguished personalities from Vidarbha, Bundelkhand, Sikkim etc., and the panel discussion of Mission Master Race which will be chaired by Prof Anil Boro, Department of Folklore, Guahati University and will be graced by many eminent personalities.

On the last day, the open session will be held at 12 noon which will be attended by the president of the Boro Sahitya Sabha, Toren Boro, VC, Assam Agricultural University, Dr Kamal Malla Bujarbaruah and the BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary as special guests. The ABSU workers and the organising committee have urged all concerned to extend their helping hands to make the event a grand success.
