ABSU founder Baneswar Basumatary remembered

TEZPUR, Nov 3 - The Sonitpur district ABSU in association with the West Tezpur Anchalik ABSU observed the 78th birth anniversary of the founder president of All Bodo Students� Union (ABSU) late Baneswar Basumatary, with a daylong programme recently, at the meeting hall of West Tezpur Anchalik ABSU located at Bandarmari area.

The programme began with the unfurling of the flag by the vice-president of the Sonitpur district ABSU, Jit Swargiary. Prior to the flag hoisting, the members thronging the venue from different committees sang the morning prayer. It was followed by tribute to late Baneswar Basumatary, by the adviser of the ABSU, Khungkhra Swargiary.

It is to be mentioned here that late Baneswar Basumatary honoured with the name �Mugani Agdari� (statesman) was the first president of All Bodo Students� Union. Born on November 1, 1942 at Koklabari village in today�s Baksa district, he founded the ABSU on February 15, 1967. A pioneering student leader who stood for the unity and prosperity of the Bodo community amidst many tough challenges, he also served the Boro people as the founder president of both the Boro Writers� Academy and the All Bothow Mahasabha. He left for his heavenly abode on December 8, 2017.

Speaking on the occasion, ABSU adviser, Khungkhra Swargiary appealed to all concerned to dedicate themselves for building up the nation as a master race.

An intellectual meet among the district, central and the anchalik-level ABSU members followed. Presided over by the vice president, Sonitpur ABSU Tapan Daimary and conducted by district ABSU, general secretary, Rajesh Basumatary the event was graced by president of West Tezpur Anchalik ABSU, Jiku Bodosa and general secretary, Rupjyoti Boro.
