KALAIGAON, May 23 - The All Bodo Students� Union (ABSU) on Wednesday felicitated the top 10 Bodo students who secured high marks in the HSLC examination, 2019, with the 14th Kamal Kumar Brahma Derhasaat Bantha, 2019, at a programme held at Bodofa Fwthar at Bhergaon.
The ABSU also felicitated two successful Bodo candidates � Fwwrman Brahma of Kokrajhar (Rank 429) and Tapas Basumatari of Guwahati (Ranked 645) who cleared the UPSC Civil Service Examination, 2018-19.
More than 3,000 students, teachers and guardians attended the felicitation programme.
The meeting was presided over by ABSU president Pramod Boro. Romeo P Narzary welcomed the gathering while ABSU vice president Dipen Boro delivered the keynote address. Krishna Gopal Basumatari, director of the UN Academy, Kokrajhar delivered the inaugural speech at the programme which was attended by Smita Agarwal, education head (CSR), Tata Steel, Jamshedpur, as the chief guest. Pathsala Sikhyapeeth Adarsha High School principal Utpal Bokakoty was the appointed speaker, while the programme was anchored by ABSU general secretary Lawrence Islari and ABSU education secretary Kastom Basumatari.
Most of the speakers explained the role played by the ABSU, which has been relentlessly working for the enhancement of the Bodo medium of education since 2006. The ABSU had declared 2016 as the �Year of Education� and had launched a massive education awareness programme for students of the elementary and secondary level.
In 2007, the ABSU launched its �Mission Quality Education 2020� and organised bicycle rallies covering around 2,300 km across Assam and connecting Bodo-medium schools. Programmes like career counselling, residential learning for poor students, guardians� meet, teachers� meet, talent search examinations for classes IX and X, orientation and coaching programmes for various competitive examinations such as UPSC, APSC, etc. were organised.
However, the ABSU has constantly been speaking about the apathy of the State government towards Bodo-medium education. Bodo-medium schools have been affected by several problems, including lack of teachers, insufficient supply of textbooks and poor infrastructure.
The Bodo medium students who were felicitated were Riju Bargayari, Pranoy Brahma, Debsung Basumatari, Subham Boro, Nutrela Basumatari, Sangiata Mushahari, Jumi Narzary, Dwimu Boro, Deepanjali Narzary, Henna Basumatari, Laimwn Basumatari, Didwm Mushahari, Sayeri Basumatari, Fwrmaisri Boro and Harendra Nath Mochahari.
