KOKRAJHAR, June 18 - The All Bodo Students� Union (ABSU) on Saturday expressed its serious concern on the present situation in Darjeeling area of West Bengal.
�The outburst of tension in Darjeeling area is nothing but an unwarranted outcome of the autocratic rule of the Bengal Government as well as the Government of India�s utter negligence towards the problem�, said ABSU president Promod Boro in a press meet held at the Bodofa House here.
Condemning the unprovoked action on the part of the Bengal police and their �indiscriminate� torture of unarmed civilians on the streets of Darjeeling, the ABSU president also alleged that the recovery of the so-called lethal weapons from the office of the GJM as shown in the media footage was nothing but a planted act of the Bengal police. The torching of the vehicles of the media house was a part of conspiracy hatched by the Bengal police to blame the GJM, he alleged.
He also said that the demands of GJM are historically and constitutionally legitimate, correct and justified. �As the member of the National Federation for New States (NFNS), we express our support and solidarity towards the Gorkha peoples� movement for Gorkhaland�, Boro said.
At the same time, the ABSU urged the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha leadership to lead the movement through democratic, peaceful and non-violent means and appealed to both the agitating leadership and the Bengal administration to restrain themselves from violence and maintain peace in the area.
The ABSU further urged the Government of India�s immediate intervention into the matter and concede to the Gorkha people�s demand for a Gorkhaland State for permanent peace in the region. �We demand immediate intervention of the Government of India on the matter of Gorkhaland movement as it was a pre-poll commitment of the BJP and the central committee of BJP should clear its official stand on the issue, � Promod Boro said.
Reiterating the Bodoland Statehood demand, the ABSU president said if the Central and State Government failed to resolve the Bodoland issue immediately, then the movement groups will be compelled to launch a series of agitational programmes like the indefinite national highway and railway blockade programme from September next. The press meet was also attended by B Sungthagra, chairman NDFB (P) and Garjan Mashahary, Deputy chief convener, PJACBM.
