ABSU condemns physical assault on a student

KALAIGAON, June 5 - The Udalguri district ABSU along with Boro Women Justice Forum and Boro People�s Committee for Peace Initiative staged a protest at Harisinga on Friday against the alleged physical assault and attempt to murder of a student of Harisinga HS School.

According to reports, Sansuma Ramchiyary (15), son of Chandra Ramchiyary of Towmari under Harisinga police station, came out for morning jogging on May 30. But when it rained, the boy sat on a the veranda of TV shop at Harisinga daily market. Suspecting him to be a thief, the neighbours of daily market brutally assaulted the boy. Later, the boy was handed over to the police at around 5 am.

The boy was admitted to the Tezpur Medical College in critical condition.

An FIR was lodged at Harisinga police station by the victim�s parents, but accept one culprit the others have not been arrested yet, sources said. All the organisations and local people staged a sit-in demonstration against police inaction in this regard.

More than 2,000 people participated in the demonstration shouting slogans against the administration. Anjali Daimary, the president of Boro Women Justice Forum, demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the incident, a judicial inquiry and compensation to the family of the victim.

Rinjoy Boro, president of Udalguri district ABSU, also demanded immediate arrest of all the culprits. A memorandum was also submitted to the Assam Chief Secretary through Udalguri DC for safety and security of the common people of the region and to create congenial atmosphere among the communities.
