ABSU burns effigies of PM, Union Minister

By Correspondent

TEZPUR, July 23 - The Sonitpur District ABSU on Thursday burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir and BJP president Amit Shah at the heart of the Dhekiajuli town in protest against comments made against the Bodoland movement carried out by the ABSU in association with various Boro national organisations.

More than 1000 ABSU workers thronged the martyrs township representing various anchalick committees and registered their protest. It is to be stated here that a couple of days back Hansraj Gangaram Ahir had commented that there is no agenda of the present BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre to create any small State in the country. This comment created a sharp reaction among the ABSU workers who have been carrying out a movement on demand of Bodoland for years.

Reacting to the comment, the protesters mentioned that it was funny that the BJP which managed to win a number of Boro-dominated Lok Sabha seats in the last parliamentary poll in Assam, promising a separate Boroland State in their election manifesto knows nothing about the issue of Bodoland. The Bodoland issue is not a joke, maintaining silence or our observing the Governments motives should not be considered as our weakness. The Bodos can go for the supreme sacrifice in the interest of the nation. So we appeal to both the State and the Central Governments to have a rethink over the issue so that the situation does not worsen, the protesters told the media.
