GUWAHATI, Sept 3 � The central function of the 29th edition of Abhiruchi Sports Day was celebrated here in the city with a day-long programme. The Sports Day has been organised on the occasion of Bhogeswar Baruah�s birth anniversary, the first Arjuna Award winning athlete from Assam.
The mass jogging was flagged off by Arjuna awardee Jayanta Talukdar at the Chandmari flyover where along with several international and national level sportspersons, Bhogeswar Baruah was also present. Thousands of sports enthusiastic people, mostly school children took part in the jogging which ended at the Nehru Stadium.
After the jogging, a group dance and physical training (PT) competitions were held at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium among the city based schools. In group dance, 19 schools took part while in the PT competition, five school teams showed their skills.
The organisers also felicitated sportspersons, organisers, former players and head of institutions on the occasion.
In the felicitation function, Bhogeswar Baruah, MLAs Capt Robin Bordoloi, Rekibuddin Ahmed, SBI official VS Sinha, Jayanta Talukdar�s mother Satyabati Talukdar were present as guests.
