By Correspondent

DIPHU, Sept 1 - Fifteen months after the lynching of two Guwahati-based youths at Panjuri Kachari Gaon under Dokmoka Police Station in Karbi Anglong district, Karbi Rong Asar Amei (KRAA), a local civil society on Wednesday demanded the government to stop harassment of innocent people in the name of arresting the murderers.

Two youths, namely Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das were brutally killed by a mob at Panjuri Kachari Gaon on the night of June 8, 2018 suspecting them to be child-lifters.

Those arrested in connection with the case were poor, uneducated people belonging to Karbi, Bodo, Mech and Assamese communities of Dengoan area. Some witnesses subsequently turned hostile as the police forced them to make false statements before the magistrate in Diphu, a KRAA spokesperson stated in a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and routed through the Karbi Anglong Deputy Commissioner Mukul Kumar Saikia at Diphu on Wednesday.
