GUWAHATI, March 22 � Abhijit Kulkarni of Mumbai clinched double crown in the AC Bali Table Tennis Championship organised by Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA).
The tournament has been organised during the annual convention of Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI).
In opens singles, Abhijeet defeated his teammate Ashwin Ferro 12-10, 11-6. Earlier, the Abhijeet-Ashwin team beat Assam, comprising of Tauhid Ali Talukder and Pabitra Gogoi 2-1 in the final. Abhijeet downed Pabitra 11-5, 11-7 while Tauhid got the better of Ashwin 11-9, 11-8. In doubles, the Mumbai duo trounced the Assam pair 11-7, 11-4.
In opens doubles final, the Mumbai pair of G Costa and A Ferro beat Pabitra-Tauhid duo 11-7, 11-8.
In the JK Bose cricket, East Zone suffered the second consecutive defeat at the Nehru Stadium. Today West Zone defeated East by 35 runs. In reply to West�s 144, East were restricted to 106. Devendra Pandey was the top scorer for West with 37 while Subodh Malla Baruah took three West wickets. For East, Tauhid Ali Talukdar top scored with an unbeaten 61.
At Judges� Field, North Zone defeated South Zone by seven wickets. Chasing a target of 144, North smacked up 145 losing seven wickets. North opener Rajiv Vajpayee was the leading scorer with 57. For South, Satish Viswanathan was the leading run-getter with 44.
