Patacharkuchi, March 16: Abdul Kalam Azad, the former two-time MLA of 41 No Bhawanipur LAC under Bajali district, today announced his resignation from AIUDF and expressed his confidence that people will support him even as an independent candidate.

He decided to contest in the constituency as an independent candidate as Phani Talukdar was given the ticket to contest the election from AIDUF party in the constituency.

In the meeting held at Sukmanah bazaar, some of Kalam's followers also resigned from the party and shouted slogans of injustice as he was not given a ticket despite winning twice from the constituency.

“I have resigned from AIUDF as the party provided ticket to Phani Talukdar. The people of the area want me to contest from the constituency as they do not support any other candidate" he said.

He slammed the party leader Badaruddin Ajmal and the new ticket holder Phani Talukdar.

Kalam also expressed deep concern at the party's decision to provide ticket to such a person. When asked about the main contest in the ensuing election, he said that his contest will be with BJP-AGP alliance candidate of the constituency.
