AB-PMJAY launched in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Dec 20 - Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma launched the Ayushman Bharat � Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in convergence with Megha Health Insurance Phase IV here today.

Almost seven lakh beneficiaries would be covered under the scheme. Another 3.47 lakh beneficiaries belonging to the Socio-Economic Caste Census category as defined under the Ministry of Rural Development will be covered under the PMJAY. Sangma said that the scheme is �inclusive and addresses the healthcare needs of the people. The MHIS is a good initiative taken up by the government in the past three years,� he added.

According top priority to the health sector, Sangma said, all stakeholders should ensure proactive participation to ensure quality and accessible health to the people.

Sangma said that the rural sector needs special attention and added that the Government is working closely with the private sector to make health care accessible and affordable for the people of the remote areas.

The CM also expressed hope that the medical colleges coming up in the State would be able to address the issue of shortage of doctors in the State. �Besides infrastructure and medical treatment, awareness on preventive measures is equally important�, he added.

Under MHIS Phase IV the coverage has been increased to Rs 5 lakh per household. Earlier, the insurance cover was Rs 2.8 lakh.
