AAU, PCRA ink MoU for awareness progs

JORHAT, Oct 29 - In a joint effort to spread awareness on the efficient use of energy and petroleum products among farmers across the State, the Assam Agricultural University (AAU) here and the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) of the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday.

�Our university and the PCRA will be jointly working to sensitize farmers about the efficient use of petroleum products like diesel, petrol, etc., while using power tillers, water pumps and other equipment in agricultural activities,� said AAU spokesperson Dr Ranjit Kumar Saud.

In the presence of the Associate Director of Extension Education, Dr M Neog, and PCRA Deputy Director Indrajit Kaman, the MoU was signed by the Director and Chief Regional Coordinator of the PCRA (Eastern Region), Prabir Kumar Raychaudhuri, and the Director of the AAU�s Extension Education Department, Dr Dipak Kumar Bora.

On November 8 this year, an awareness campaign will be launched and the 23 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of the AAU will organise farmers� fairs in different parts of the State.

�We are going to start the awareness programme at a farmers� fair at Titabor on November 8. KVKs will work actively in the mass awareness programmes in different districts. We hope this will generate mass awareness about the efficient use of energy and petroleum products among the farmers of our state,� said Dr Saud.
