AATTSA stages dharna at Tinsukia over Pengeree firing

TINSUKIA, May 12 - The Tinsukia district committee of the All Assam Tea Tribe Students� Association (AATTSA) staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner�s office complex here on Tuesday demanding a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of those died in the April 11 Pengeree incident.

The students� body also demanded another compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the son of Sumi Garh and Lakhimani Garh who were killed by miscreants on April 6 night. It also demanded immediate suspension of the officer in-charge of the Pengeree Police Station and handing over the incident�s investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The AATTSA also cautioned the Naga militants who were demanding money from the owners of Namdung Tea Estate of Margherita and called for ensuring security to the people, including the workers of the tea garden.

The student body that submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Governor and Chief Minister on April 22 threatened that their protest programmes would continue more intensely till their demands are fulfilled.

Following the dharna programme, the AATTSA also submitted a memorandum citing their demands to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner.
