GUWAHATI, Nov 21 - At a time when common people are dealing with the inconvenience caused by the sudden demonetisation in the country, a unit of the All Assam Students Union has come forward to help an orphanage with essential items.

Members of the Central Guwahati Students Union (CGSU) visited the Anandmarg Sevashram here today and extended a helping hand by supplying essential items like rice, pulses, milk, gram, biscuit packets, potato, onion, snacks etc.

According to CGSU general secretary Sukumar Barman, though the drive against black money is being supported by the people in general, it has certainly created some inconvenience for the common people.

Especially for their day-to-day needs, people are dependent on small-scale transactions, notes of smaller denomination etc. In such circumstances, society has certain responsibilities towards its weaker and disadvantaged sections, like orphans. At a time when we are concerned about our day-to-day needs, we must also think about the problems being faced by these people, stated Barman.

The CGSU also urged the State government to take steps to help such orphanages and other shelter homes at this hour of crisis.
