GUWAHATI, June 10 - Paying tribute to the martyrs of food and economy agitation of 1974, the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) today organised students� integration day across the State observing norms of social distancing.
In view of the present situation, the student body had decided to keep the programmes low-key. Tribute programmes were organised by the district and regional units of AASU in the morning, while earthen lamps were lighted in the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the State and its people.
Students� integration day or Chhatra Sanhati Diwas, is an annual event organised by AASU units on June 10. On this day AASU activists Gajen Ingti and Putul Saikia had laid down their lives in police firing in Morigaon during the AASU�s movement on food and economy-related issues.
In Guwahati, the All Guwahati Students� Union (AGSU) organised a tribute programme at Nehru Park. Floral tributes were paid to the martyrs at the swahid bedi by AGSU office-bearers and students of different colleges of Guwahati.
