DIBRUGARH, Feb 26: The All Dibrugarh District Students’ Union (ADDSU) today pledged to ignore musician Bipin Chawdang in all events of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) in the district in protest against the artiste’s reported irresponsible comments on Lurinjyoti Gogoi, former general secretary, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) during a recent meeting organised in Tingkhong.

Criticising musician Bipin Chawdang, ADDSU president Bulbul Dutta while addressing newsmen here today, said that the artiste has tried to question the integrity of former AASU leader by making unfounded assertions. “AASU got a new lease of life during the leadership of Lurinjyoti Gogoi. He spearheaded the students’ body as its general secretary daringly and without any compromise. In his attempt to malign the former AASU leader, we believe Bipin Chawdang is striving to be in the good books of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),” stated Dutta.

ADDSU leader further said that Tingkhong MLA Bimal Borah and artiste Bipin Chawdang being from the saffron brigade, are only echoing the stand of the BJP. “It is not that they do not understand Citizenship Amendment Act. They know what impact CAA will have on all of us. They are making such statements only because they are from the BJP,” stressed Dutta.

Abani Kumar Gogoi, general secretary, ADDSU also condemned the statement of Bipin Chawdang and demanded that the artiste refrain from passing such reckless comments on the leadership of AASU. He also criticised the artiste for his attempt to put a stain on the student body by dragging the recent AASU convention in his speeches against the AASU leader. “If the musician had not understood CAA at all, how could he compose anti-CAA songs,” questioned Gogoi.
