AASU takes out torchlight rally against citizenship Bill

DOOMDOOMA, Jan 20 - The Doomdooma unit of AASU in association with several other organisations and public brought out a huge trochlight rally at Rupai Siding on Saturday evening in protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Around 2,000 people from all walks of life participated in the rally which began from Rupai Sakha Sahitya Sabha Bhawan premises and ended at Rupai Siding Tiniali where the protesters held a meeting on the street. The protesters shouted slogans against the controversial Bill and also against the BJP governments at the centre and the state.

IN Kaliabor: The Kaliabor Zila unit of AGP also organised a torchlight rally on Saturday evening in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 where around 3,000 persons from all walks of life, including women, senior citizens, educationists and others participated.

The procession was flagged off by MLA Keshab Mahanta, while former minister Gunin Hazarika also participated. Significantly, BJP member Dhrubajyoti Borgohain also participated and vehemently protested against the controversial Bill and demanded its cancellation. The procession proceeded from Jakhalabandha Hospital Chariali upto NRL Petrol Pump.
