AASU-supported candidates sweep polls in Jorhat College

JORHAT, Oct 2 - AASU-supported candidates clinched the four key posts of the Students� Union of Jorhat College to which elections were held last week.

AASU-backed candidates also won five other posts uncontested. The AASU-supported candidates defeated NSUI-backed candidates in the college students� union polls. NSUI is the students� wing of the Indian National Congress.

The posts which the AASU-supported candidates won are general secretary, assistant general secretary, cultural secretary and girls� common room secretary.

The five posts which AASU-backed candidates won are vice-president, secretary of literary forum, sports secretary, magazine secretary and debating secretary.

After the results of the elections were declared, assistant general secretary of Jorhat district unit AASU Bijoy Shankar Bordoloi and Jorhat regional unit of AASU Arjun Bhuyan visited the college and felicitated the winners .

Jul Khound, State organising secretary of AASU, in a press note, thanked the students of the college for entrusting the responsibility of leading the students� union by AASU-supported candidates and hoped the new body will sincerely discharge their responsibilities to meet the expectations of the students and look after their interest.

In a press note, general secretary of the Jorhat regional unit of AASU Partha Pratim Bora, congratulated the winners and hoped that the new union body will put in their best for the betterment of the students.

It may be mentioned here AASU-backed candidates registered victory in the elections held for the seven posts of students� union of the Chandra Kamal Bezboruah Commerce College, Jorhat, by defeating ABVP-backed candidates on September 25. AASU-supported candidates also won two other posts uncontested.
