AASU submits memo against Citizenship Bill

BAIHATA CHARIALI, June 19 - The Kamrup district unit of AASU on Monday took out a rally from Amingaon to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Rural) against the proposed Citizenship Bill.

The students raised slogans against the BJP-led Union and State governments for their anti-people attitude and warned that AASU would continue their movement against the Bill until the Government assured to repeal the Bill.

The students subsequently submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister with copies to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Council through the Deputy Commissioner.

The memorandum listed the student body�s demands, including deportation of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators from the State.

In the rally, AASU president Dipanka Nath, Prakash Das and Dharmeswar Das assistant secretary and office-cum-information secretary of AASU respectively along with Dhiraj Rajbongshi and Nirod Das, advisers of AASU�s Kamrup district unit, Dibakar Kalita and Hemanta Das, president and secretary of Kamrup district unit of AASU, the Doloi of Hayagrib Madhab Devalaya, Hajo lmam of Poa Mecca and members from Sarania Students� Union, ABSU, Rabha Students� Union and Goriya Moriya Students� Union also participated.

In the meantime, Ranbir Bora, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup district received the memorandum on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner. He urged the AASU members to abandon their protest and assured to submit their memorandum to the authorities concerned through the proper channel.
